LEARN MORE ABOUT HOTEL CRUZ DEL VADO

A BUILDING FULL OF HISTORY, ART AND CULTURE

Located in one of the first neighborhoods of the city and very close to the Cruz del Vado monument, the Hotel of the same name, was arduously intervened using a fusion of traditional and modern construction techniques, preserving the essence and history of this heritage building, while giving it our own identity.

Built 90 years ago, this property has walls 50 centimeters thick; those of the ground floor are of adobe and those of the second, third and fourth floors are of bahareque. Its facade is entirely covered by locally mined pink marble, an undeniable symbol of the luxurious lifestyle of the period in which it was built. Its interiors are similarly full of unique details due to its republican style and influence by French architecture.

Originally, this property was the home of Cuenca’s first newspaper El Mercurio and was previously known as “Palacio de El Mercurio”. On the façade, above the main entrance, it bears a plaque in honor of the illustrious journalist from Cuenca, Federico Proaño, for some the best of Ecuador, an ultra-conservative and champion of liberalism in the region who was banished by President Garcìa Moreno.

In 2014, the Lloret family of architects, renowned for renovating and recovering patrimonial real estate in Cuenca, were contracted by Art Hotels Ecuador to begin Planning Studies for the rehabilitation project so that the property, which had since been converted into a rental establishment, would serve for the operation of a high end boutique hotel.

Its facilities and 26 rooms are a reflection of true luxury hospitality. The property offers all the services expected from a boutique hotel of this category. Right up to the top floor where our restaurant and rooftop bar Cúpulas Azules are renowned for having the best views of the city and excellent cuisine.
